The holidays are great time to appreciate the outdoors. You may be thinking, “Outdoors? No way this time of year is for sitting inside by the fire watching holiday movies.” Well, it is time to start thinking outside of the box (or maybe just outside of your warm home). Many local communities hold holiday events such as tree lightings for everyone in their communities.
Local Traditions, Local Decorations
While you may think that this is a simple holiday celebration, think about it in terms of the outdoor decor inspiration. Many towns and communities come together to devise a plan for those wonderful gatherings. While you may only notice the large Christmas tree that is lit upon the pressing of a button, look around you!
Many towns have now taken to decorating the side walks and walkways all around. We’ve found several communities near one of our manufacturers, Campania International, that have actually purchased different Campania pots for decorating. These planters are actually seasonally decorated. From winter greens and reds in the winter to bright colorful flowers in the spring and summer.
If you’re looking for a great way to spend a day out with the family, consider some of your own local gardens. One of the best displays around the holidays is held at Longwood Gardens is Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. They not only decorate the premises for the holidays, but they also hold great events. They host organ sing-a-longs and local choirs and musicians who perform concerts. This is a great place to visit for a family for a holiday event. You may even see some of the beautiful pots that become an inspiration to Campania International’s Longwood Gardens collection.
Visiting some historical sites during the holiday season can also give you another option. The Smithsonian Museum features a Holiday Festival. They have different performances and events to take part in throughout December. Rather than sitting at home show the family some great historical places all while taking in some of the beautiful decorations. While at the Smithsonian, you may even see some pieces that remind you of Campania International’s Smithsonian Collection!
These local communities and historical sites can be a great inspiration for your very own home. You don’t have to take the full ideas from these locations, but use them in parts as inspiration. Use your outdoor planters as the centerpiece for holiday greens and lights. Or use your birdbaths as a place to put decorative holiday ornamental balls or a place for Santa to sit!
